Geckos Etc. Latest News:
12/29/08 - I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Deb's parents were visiting with us over the last week for Christmas (from Connecticut) and we had a great time with them. We spent a while at our house, and then took them to San Francisco for a few days. They just left today, so now it is back to work as usual.
For those that live in southern California, we will be selling geckos at the Reptile Super Show this coming weekend, January 3 and 4. It will be held at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona. We have been planning on vending at this show for a long time, but I forgot to add this show to our shows page. Anyway, we hope to see you there! We will have lots of great geckos for sale, and many will be adult size and ready to breed right now. Here is the link to the show website: http://www.reptilesupershow.com/
Once I get back from the show I will be working on taking photos for the next website update. We have lots of beautiful, colorful geckos to offer for sale in the coming months. Most are ready to plug into your breeding projects right away!
We have also started taking orders for the March Hamm show. The details of the Hamm shipment are posted on this page: Hamm Shipment Details

I am taking photos of new geckos this week, and hope to have a lot of new geckos ready to post to the available pages by early next week. Deb is going away for the weekend, so I should have minimal distractions...other than hundreds of hungry gecko mouths!
There never seems to be a slow time of the year when you are a reptile breeder! Our females are almost done laying eggs for the year, but babies are still hatching each day. Plus, it is almost time to start putting together the breeders for the 2009 season!
This past weekend Deb and I went to the Plumas National Forest in the mountains for a weekend away...just for fun. Some people may not know this about us, but we grow a lot of carnivorous plants in our backyard, mainly American Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia), Sundews, and Venus Flytraps. This was a belated trip to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. Our goal for the weekend was to find the California Pitcher Plant (Darlingtonia californica), and in the process we also found the Round Leaved Sundew (Drosera rotundifolia). Here are some photos of the plants we saw this weekend. Darlingtonia is such a cool plant! I used to grow this plant years ago, but it doesn't like the hot summers we have in the Central Valley. |
10/5/08 - I have finished posting sixty-nine new geckos to the available pages. The new geckos include a Diablo Blanco, Enigmas, Bell Albino Enigmas, Tremper Albino Enigmas, Tremper Albino Enigmas het RAPTOR, Novas, a Blazing Blizzard Enigma, a Snow Tremper Enigma, Snow Enigmas, an Eclipse Enigma, RAPTORs, APTORs, RAPTOR hets, Super Giant Albinos, Snow Bells, Super Snow Bells, a Snow Tremper Albino, Blizzards, a Tangerine Tornado, a Super Snow, Super Hypo Tangerines, Super Hypo Tangerines het Bell Albino, Bell Sunglows, and Bell Albinos. I will be taking photos of more geckos this week and will have the new ones posted soon.
Here are some updated photos of the first Blazing Blizzard Bell that we hatched in July. It is a female, and she is doing very well! She is sharing a cage with a RAPTOR of the same age, and the BBB is very robust and growing much faster than the RAPTOR. She is currently 35 grams. This is definitely a very exciting project, and we look forward to producing some great new morphs from this bloodline.
|
10/3/08 - Eight new Nephrurus amyae were posted to the Available Knobtail Page. These are the first of the 2008 sexable pairs. I also have unsexable amyae babies available, please inquire.
I have taken photos of 50 new leopard geckos to post for sale. The new geckos will start to show up today, and I should have the update finished in the next day or two. Once I finish this update I will start taking photos for the next website update.
We are now taking orders for the December Hamm show. I have lots of great geckos to post for sale in the time between now and the Hamm show. Let me know if you are looking for something in particular, and I will look to see what I have it available. |
| 9/18/08 - Good news for all of you who want to know more about Australian knob-tailed geckos. I have two articles that were just published in Reptiles Magazine on the care and breeding of knobtails. There is a 3000 word article in the 2009 issue of Reptiles USA. This is an annual magazine, so it will be available in book stores and pet stores for the next year. I also have a 1500 word article in the November 2008 issue of Reptiles Magazine. This article is in the Breeder's Notebook, and focuses mainly on breeding these geckos. |
9/17/08 - I am back home from the Hamm show. Thanks to everyone that purchased geckos from me in the Hamm shipment. I had a good time as usual, and it was nice to see all my friends again. This was my most stressful trip to Germany to date. Two of my three flights to Germany were cancelled, so I took a shuttle and a train for two of the legs of the trip. I ended up getting 2 hours of sleep the night before the show, but that is about normal for the Hamm show! Thankfully, the trip home was much smoother.
I would also like to thank everyone who purchased geckos from Deb and her friend Melissa at the Sacramento show. I regret missing the show! I always like the Sacramento show since it is so close to home.
Our busiest time of the year for shows is now over, so now I can get back on track with posting geckos for sale again. It will take me about a week to get catch up on everything, but I plan on posting new geckos for sale next week. |
9/4/08 - We are away at the NARBC reptile show in Anaheim. We will be back Monday morning. This week and next week are the two busiest weeks of the year for us. We have 3 reptile shows in 2 weekends! This weekend is the NARBC show, and next weekend Steve will be at the Hamm show and Debra will be selling geckos at the Sacramento show. It is a crazy time, but it always seems to happen this time of year.
A bunch of new geckos were posted over the last few days, and if I get a chance I hope to post more over the weekend. I may have email access in our hotel, and if I do I will try to keep up on email. For the Hamm customers, I will be sending the letters out early next week when I get back.
Things will slow down a bit for us once I get back from Hamm. We have lots of amazing geckos growing up right now, and will be posting them for sale during the Fall and Winter. |
8/28/08 - Thanks to everyone that purchased geckos from us in Daytona! We had a great time as usual and got to see a lot of good friends. Tropical Storm Fay was a bit of a hassle, but at least it wasn't as bad as Hurricane Charlie was in 2005.
Thirty new geckos were posted today. The new ones include Enigmas het RW Albino, a Red Eye Enigma, an Eclipse Enigma het RAPTOR, a RAPTOR Enigma (Nova), a Super Snow Enigma, a Mack Snow Enigma, RAPTORs, a RAPTOR Het, a Giant APTOR het RAPTOR, Snow Bells, Snows het Bell Albino, a Snow Tremper Albino, Bell Albinos, an Eclipse, and some Super Snows.
We had an exciting surprise this year from one of our "fun" projects. Two years ago we got some hatchling Mexican Beaded Lizards. They grew really well, and in late June we were very surprised to see them mating! You can't determine the sex of young beadeds, you just have to grow them up and then figure it out when they are adults. One breeder once told me "you will know who the female is when she lays eggs". Well, I guess we have a pair! Our female laid 9 eggs a couple weeks ago, and 5 of them are fertile. Here she is with her eggs:

Now we have to wait 6 months for them to hatch!
|
| 8/20/08 - We are away at the Daytona Reptile Expo. I may have access to email while I am away, but if not I will answer emails and phone calls when I return on Tuesday August 26th. I will be posting some new geckos to the available pages next week when I get back. |
8/12/08 - Thirty-four new geckos were posted today. The new ones include Enigmas, Novas, a Bell Enigma, a Snow Bell Enigma, Enigmas Double het for Bell Blazing, Tremper Enigmas het RAPTOR, Snow Bells, a Snow het Bell, Blizzards, a SHT het Bell Albino, a Tangerine Bell Albino, and a Super Hypo Tangerine. More new geckos will be posted soon.
We were away for the weekend at a reptile show, and I am a little behind on email. I will be catching up in the next day or two. |
8/7/08 - I posted 23 new geckos to the available pages. The new ones include RAPTORs, RAPTOR Hets, Super Hypo Tangerines, a pair of Nephrurus wheeleri, and some young Nephrurus amyae.
I will be away this weekend at the San Jose Reptile Show. I have taken photos of 35 new geckos, but haven't had a chance to download and post them yet. I hope to get it done over the weekend and have the new geckos posted early next week. The new ones include Enigmas, Snow Bells, Super Snows, Blizzards, and others. This is a very busy time of year, but the babies we are hatching now are amazing! :) |
8/1/08 - Forty-one new geckos were added to the available pages today. The new geckos include Enigmas, Bell Albino Enigmas, Red Stripe Enigmas, Enigmas Het Rainwater Albino, a Super Snow Enigma, Snow Enigma, Snow Bell Albinos, RAPTORs, an Eclipse, Super Snow Bells, Bell Sunglows, Super Hypo Tangerines Het Bell Albino, Bell Albinos, a Giant Albino, and a Tremper Albino. I will be posting more geckos for sale soon.
We hatched an exciting baby recently, a Blazing Bell! To our knowledge this is the only one in the world. This project has taken us 6 years, but we finally hit the odds. Hopefully with this baby it will be easier to produce more of them in the future!
|
6/12/08 - We have been hatching a lot of really special geckos recently. Here are some of our favorites that have hatched over the last month:
Enigma Eclipses (het RAPTOR) - I really like how these turned out! |

Enigma Snow Tremper - This is an interesting cross and I didn't know what to expect the offspring to look like. This is the second one we have hatched. When the first one hatched I thought it was a Super Snow Tremper Albino, but only one of the parents is a snow, so that was not possible. If you look closely you can differentiate it from a Super Snow Tremper by the very faint banded pattern that is just barely visible on the body and tail. The first one we hatched is now several weeks old and is now developing a whitish jungle pattern. The eye appears solid right now, but it may change as it ages. |

|
Super Snow Bell Enigma - Here are some updated photos of one of our Super Snow Bell Enigmas. This morph is one of my favorites of the new enigma combination morphs. I don't think it is possible for that eye to be any redder! |
|
|
| |
|
| Tremper Blazing Blizzard Enigma - We had a nice surprise to find out that one of our male Tremper Enigmas het RAPTOR is also het for Blizzard. This baby hatched from breeding that male to a Blazing Blizzard female. I know there has been some discussion about what the Enigma Blazing Blizzard looks like, and I am 100% certain this is an Enigma BB. It will be interesting to see how it changes as it gets older. |

5/23/08 - 90 new geckos were added to the available pages today. The new geckos include a pair of Nephrurus amyae, Enigmas, Giant RAPTORs, Blazing Blizzards, Super Hypo Tangerines, Mack Snows, Snow Bells and Super Snow Bells, Bell Albinos, Bold Stripe Snows, Bold Stripes, RAPTORs, RAPTOR Hets, Giants, a Snow Patternless Albino, Tremper Albinos, a Super Snow, Bell Sunglows, a Snow Tremper Albino, and Wild Caught Bloodline leopards.
We are having a good season so far. The coolest stuff to hatch recently include a Snow Tremper Enigma, Super Snow Bell Enigmas, RAPTOR Enigmas, and Eclipse Enigmas. I was surprised at the look of the Snow Tremper Enigma. When it hatched it looked just like a Super Snow Tremper Albino, but only one of the parents is a snow...so it couldn't be a Super Snow Albino. It has what appear to be solid eyes (tough to tell for sure on young babies). It hatched totally patternless white, except for a small white spot on the back and faint white on the neck band. It has she once or twice now and a faint white pattern is starting to show through. |
4/22/08 - I posted 109 new geckos to the available pages last week (but didn't post an updated entry here). The new geckos include Super Hypo Tangerines, RAPTORs, APTORs, RAPTOR hets, Tremper Albinos, Bell Albinos, Blazing Blizzards, a Super Giant RAPTOR, Giant RAPTOR hets, a Mack Snow, a Super Snow Bell, and some Bold Stripes.
We have been hatching a lot of really amazing babies this year! Below are some photos of some of our favorites.

4/4/08 - I am working on taking photos for the next website update. So far I have taken photos of 40 new geckos, but am planning on taking more before I start posting the new ones. So far the new geckos include RAPTORs, APTORs, RAPTOR hets, Super Hypo Tangerines, a Snow Blizzard, and a few other morphs. It always seems like there is some project here that needs my immediate attention, so this update has taken longer to get posted than I anticipated. There is never a slow time of the year when breeding reptiles! |
3/26/08 - Thanks to everyone who purchased geckos from us at the Hamm show. I had a great time there as usual, and look forward to seeing everyone again in September. I will start taking orders for the September Hamm show in July. Send us an email if you would like to be notified when I start taking orders.
I will be posting new geckos for sale soon. It is time to file our tax documents for 2007, and I have been busy finishing figuring out all the sales and expenses for 2007. I think this is what I like the least about owning my own business! In addition to tax stuff I have been busy with gecko projects here since I got home from Hamm, so I haven't started taking the photos yet. I am planning on posting the next batch of available geckos for sale soon.
Our first enigmas of 2008 have hatched, and we have already some amazing ones! The first ones include a Super Snow Bell Enigma, a Striped Snow Bell Enigma, an Enigma RAPTOR, Red-Eyed Sunglow Enigmas, Jungle Enigmas het Tremper Albino, and Tremper Enigmas het RAPTOR. I will post photos of these soon. It is an exciting year to be a leopard gecko breeder! |
3/2/08 - The website update is now 100% complete. 125 new geckos were posted in this update. The new ones include RAPTORs, APTORs, RAPTOR hets, Giants, Super Hypo Tangerines (some of my best), Bold Stripes, Bold Stripe Snows, Super Snows, Diablo Blanco Hets, Blizzards, Bell Sunglows, Giant RAPTOR hets, Snows het RAPTOR, a Snow Albino het RAPTOR, Snow Bells, Super Snow Bells, a Tremper Albino, Red Stripes, and Eclipses.
There is still time to place an order for the Hamm shipment. Let me know if you are interested in any of the geckos and we can work out the payment details. |
| 2/28/08 - I am finally done taking photos for this next website update. This time of the year I am making my final selections for breeding groups, so I am now able to sell some of the geckos I had previously chosen to hold back (I can't keep them all!). As a result, there are some REALLY cool ones in this website update, and nearly all are ready to breed right now. In total there are 125 new geckos to post for sale. It will take me a couple days to crop and post the photos, but I am working on it! |
2/17/08 - The website update is now complete, and all 100 new geckos have been posted to the available pages.
Thanks to Larry Suttles and BT from Reptile Radio for having me on their program last night! It was a fun discussion on the world of leopard geckos, with topics ranging from Enigma prices and market, new Enigma morphs, wild caught bloodline geckos, husbandry, and breeding. Here is a link to the show: Gecko Hour with Steve Sykes Thanks to everyone who called in with great questions. |
2/14/08 - The first of the new geckos were posted today. The new ones posted today include Red-Eyed Enigmas, a Red-Eyed Snow Enigma, an Enigma Het RAPTOR, Blazing Blizzards, Blizzards, and Bell Albinos. I will be posting a lot more geckos tomorrow including Snows 100% het RAPTOR, RAPTORs, RAPTOR hets, Snow Tremper Albinos, Patternless Albinos, and other morphs. I also posted 4.2 Nephrurus amyae to the Available Knobtail Geckos page. In total there are over 100 new geckos that will be posted in this update. I will continue taking photos this weekend and should have more to post for sale next week.
Mark your calendar, I will be on Reptile Radio this weekend. It should be a fun hour. Anyone can call in and ask questions, or just say hello. See my entry on 1/25/08 below for a link to the website. |
1/28/08 - Seventy-four new geckos were posted between updates yesterday and today. The new geckos include Enigmas, RAPTORs, RAPTOR hets, APTORs, Blizzards, Blazing Blizzards, Snow Het RAPTORs, Snow Ghosts, a Snow Tremper Albino, Giant RAPTOR hets, Snow Bell Albinos, Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tails, Snows, Bold Stripes, Bold Stripe Snows, and a partridge in a pear tree... :) |
1/25/08 - Photos for the next website update are coming along well. I will have the next batch of geckos posted over the next few days. There will be a good mix of morphs posted in this update.
Here's some fun news: I will be interviewed on Reptile Radio on February 17. This is a 1 hour internet radio program that will be broadcasted on February 17 at 12:00 AM Eastern Time (February 16 at 9:00 PM Pacific Time). Here is a link to their website: Reptile Radio Link If you miss it, you can click on the link on the website after the show and listen to it then. |
| 1/21/08 - I posted a total of 93 photos of new geckos and updated photos of geckos that were on the website previously. All the geckos I have posted are breeding size. I am still taking photos this week, and will be posting more geckos in the next few days. |
| 1/15/08 - I am working on taking photos for the next website update right now. I have been busy getting breeding groups together, and Deb has been keeping me busy with other projects (friends are visiting us this weekend). As a result, I am a little behind on the timeline I expected for taking photos. I will continue taking photos of new available geckos over the next several days and should have the new ones posted by Sunday or Monday. If all goes well it should be a big update. I have been focusing on taking photos of the oldest of the 2007 babies, so most of the geckos I post in this update will be well over breeding size. |
1/6/08 - I just finished posting 53 new geckos to the available pages. The new geckos include Enigmas, RAPTORs, RAPTOR hets, APTORs, a giant RAPTOR het, APTOR hets, Bold Stripes, Bold Stripe Snows, a Snow Ghost, Diablo Blanco Hets (on the Available Blazing Blizzard page), a Snow Tremper Albino, Super Snows, Super Hypo Tangerines, a Snow Albino Het RAPTOR, and a Bell Albino. |
1/1/08 - Happy New Year! We hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year. We are looking forward to an exciting year for our geckos!I am currently working on taking photos of new available geckos, and will have the new ones posted soon. I will also be slowly updating the photos of the ones online now. They have all grown since they were posted, so geckos that are listed on the site at 25-30 grams are now breeding size or close to it. We still have lots of geckos available, and will continue to update the website with new geckos every 1-2 weeks.
We are now taking orders for the March Hamm shipment. I will be coming to this show again to deliver the geckos. All geckos on my website are available for shipment to the Hamm show. The details of the Hamm shipment are on this page: March 2008 Hamm shipment |
